Ontario Ensures All Colleges and Universities Benefit From Infrastructure Investments McGuinty Government Helping To Improve, Modernize Campus Facilities

May 29, 2009 – Ontario is establishing a special $55-million Strategic Capital Infrastructure Program to ensure all colleges and universities receive funding through the McGuinty government's two-year investment in post-secondary infrastructure.

The province is also providing all colleges and universities with an additional $40 million to renew and upgrade facilities for students.

This funding is part of almost $800 million in capital funding the McGuinty government is allocating to colleges and universities this year - a boost to the $780 million the province originally committed in its 2009 budget.  It also includes:

  • A special $20 million investment to Mohawk College in Hamilton to expand its Fennell Campus
  • $25 million for the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo

Ontario and Canada announced this week joint funding of approximately $1.5 billion for 49 projects through the federal Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP) and the 2009 Ontario budget.

Investing in the knowledge and skills of Ontarians is a cornerstone of the Ontario government's plan to strengthen the economy.  Infrastructure investments at colleges and universities will create jobs and help stimulate the Ontario economy.
