McGuinty Government Protecting Student Athletes We all have a role to play – students, parents, teachers, coaches and volunteers – to properly prevent and manage concussions

Head injuries are one of the hottest topics in the world of sports and as society learns more about them, the bigger the issue is becoming.

But head injuries aren’t just something that happens in professional sports. It can happen to anyone.

That’s why the McGuinty government is working to build awareness about concussions in our schools and in the community to better protect our kids.

Ontario is the first province to introduce legislation that, if passed, would ensure that students who have suffered a concussion while participating in school sports and physical education are not returning to play/school too soon and risking further complications.

The Ontario Concussion Strategy would position Ontario as a leader in increasing awareness, prevention, identification and concussion management in schools and the broader community.

We all have a role to play – students, parents, teachers, coaches and volunteers – to properly prevent and manage concussions.

The McGuinty government is committed to supporting the early detection of head injuries, and the proper time for recovery to reduce complications in the future and ensure our kids succeed at play and in class.

Creating safer schools is part of the McGuinty government's plan to help our students succeed while securing a brighter future for all Ontarians.
